In a small village in France, far off the beaten path, stands this beautiful 17th-century castle built by a family that had made its fortune overseas. Its previous owner had tried desperately to keep it up but finally had to give it up because of the spiralling cost. His last years in the castle were spent living in one of the smaller rooms as that was easier to heat.
